First few lessons

So far we have being studying the concept of body and soul, looking at Plato and Richard Dawkins and then eventually moving on to John Hick.

Plato - dualist, he believes that the mind and body are too separate entities but interact to work together.
  • the soul comes from the world of the forms and has pre existing knowledge of that world until it comes to join the body where it forgets, its goal it to make the body live a good life and then return to the world of the forms after death.
  • In platos' books, you can read more than 1 version of the charioteer analogy.....the dark horse is wild and unrule and the white horse represents the controlled and tameable aspect of the mind, the charioteer is the most important part of the analogy as it is he who most make the two horse work together in unison.
This is all i can remember for now without having read my notes from 2 weeks ago!

Richard Dawkins
  • Dawkins is an evolutionist, he completely rejects the concept of religion as there is no proof or evidence................

Have to stop for now but shall continue at a later date!
